Pop-up During Update The pop-up window which pops up during every update can be disabled. That window is created by 'avnotify.exe' located in Avira installation folder. All that needs to be done is to simply add that process to the blocked process list. To do that: 1. Start – Run – Type “secpol.msc” 2. Click on Software Restriction Policy – go to Action (at the top) – Create New Restriction Policies 3. Right-click on Additional Rules (on the right) – Choose New Path Rule 4. Now click Browse and find the “avnotify.exe” file (C:\Program File\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\) 5. Make sure the security level is set to “Disallowed” and click OK. Splash Screen During Start up The start up splash of Avira can also be disabled by giving “/nosplash” as extra argument to the “avgnt.exe” that is invoked during start. To do this: 1. Disable "scanning for viruses..." in firefox.

One of the really annoying feature of the firefox is that it displays "scanning for viruses..." after the file is downloaded. It annoys because: 1) Sometimes the scanning goes on forever. 2) It doesn't actually detects the virus. You can check it out yourself by downloading the eicar test virus. Now, why doesn't it work? Because you have not installed one of the "supported antivirus". And I've no idea what it is. Now the main part, how to disable it. Its really simple. 1) Type "about:config" in the firefox address bar. 2) Assure that you would be careful. 3) Find the value "browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone" 4) set it as false. 5) No need to restart firefox.

Get rid of Thumbs.db

There’s a file called Thumbs.db in almost every one of the folders on my computer. What is it and how do I get rid of it? Thumbs.db is a system file generated automatically by Windows XP when you view the contents of a folder in “Thumbnail” or “Filmstrip” view. Thumbs.db contains a copy of each of the tiny preview images generated for image files in that folder so that they load up quickly the next time you browse that folder. Thumbs.db also stores your settings with regard to thumbnail and filmstrip view. Despite the fact that Thumbs.db is a hidden system file, it annoys people because it tends to show up in places where it’s not wanted. Many times you’ll try to zip up a folder full of images and e-mail them to a friend or upload them to an FTP site, and Thumbs.db goes along for the ride. To stop your computer from generating and regenerating future Thumbs.db files, do the following: If you’re on the desktop… Click Start Double-click Control Panel Double-click Folder Options ...
