One of the really annoying feature of the firefox is that it displays "scanning for viruses..." after the file is downloaded. It annoys because:
1) Sometimes the scanning goes on forever.
2) It doesn't actually detects the virus. You can check it out yourself by downloading the eicar test virus.
Now, why doesn't it work?
Because you have not installed one of the "supported antivirus". And I've no idea what it is.
Now the main part, how to disable it. Its really simple.
1) Type "about:config" in the firefox address bar.
2) Assure that you would be careful.
3) Find the value "browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone"
4) set it as false.
5) No need to restart firefox.
